Salvation and the Sacred Names

1/17/94

Some say the Sacred Names (Yahweh and Yahshua) have no bearing on our salvation. However, the Apostle Peter indicates they do have a bearing – a significant bearing – on our salvation. Soon after the Messiah ascended into the heavens, Peter declared,

"And it shall come to pass that whosoever shall call on the NAME of the

L-O-R-D shall be saved" (Acts 2:21).

This is a quotation from Joel 2:32. Scholars tell us that when spelled all in capital letters as in Joel 2:32, the word L-O-R-D has been substituted for the Sacred Name Yahweh. The prefaces to many Bibles reveal the same, therefore the Apostle Peter tied salvation to the heavenly Father's Name, Yahweh.

Was the Apostle Peter alone in proclaiming this? No. The Apostle Paul also quotes Joel in a most powerful way, as follows:

"That if thou shalt confess with thy MOUTH the Savior Yahshua, and shalt believe in thine heart that Yahweh hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt BE SAVED: for with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth CONFESSION is made UNTO SALVATION. … FOR WHOSOEVER SHALL call upon the name of Y-A-H-W-E-H shall BE SAVED" (Rom. 10:9, 10, 13; Joel 2:32).

We see that the Apostle Paul also ties salvation to the names Yahweh and Yahshua. Indeed, yes. The short form of the Father's name (Yah), is incorporated into the Son's name, Yah-shua, meaning "Yahweh's SALVATION" (Mt. 1:21). For salvation, Paul says we must call upon (speak) the names Yahweh and Yahshua. To confess these names with the mouth is a step "unto" (toward) salvation.

Who am I, to argue with those who wrote by the inspiration of the Most High? Again, the Apostle Peter confirms there is salvation in the name Yahshua:

"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other NAME under heaven given among men, whereby we must be SAVED" (Acts 4:12).

Scriptures agree: Those who call upon the names Yahweh and Yahshua will be saved.

But what about those who do not know the Sacred Names? Perhaps their ignorance will be overlooked. What about those who know the saving Names, but do not call on them – those who refuse to call on them? It is not for me to say. This is between them and the Most High El.

What about you and me – we who know the saving names? We should love the saving names and call on them (Isa. 56:6).

To summarize: If some can gain salvation without calling on the saving names, surely you and I can gain salvation by calling on them, for

"Whosoever shall call on the name of Yahweh shall be saved" (Acts 2:21).
" …You have kept my word and have not denied my name" (Rev. 3:8).
